What should new Irvine school be named? Board decides Tuesday
Does Beacon Park School have a certain ring to it? How about Cultivate School?
Those names are among the five that the Irvine Unified School District board is set to consider Tuesday night for a future school in Heritage Fields. Other options for the school, set to open in 2016 with classes for students in kindergarten through eighth grade, are Benchmark School, Paramount School and Beacon School.
According to school board policy, Irvine elementary schools are named after an adjacent street, park or “village.” The future school is located within the Beacon Park community and bordered by Cultivate, Benchmark, Paramount and Beacon streets.
The new school will serve the communities of Pavilion Park and future communities located within the Heritage Fields development, near the Orange County Great Park, according to the Irvine Unified website. The as-yet-unnamed facility is the third school set to open in the next year or so in the district. Portola Springs Elementary School is scheduled to open this fall, and Portola High School is expected to open in 2016.
The 6:30 p.m. meeting will be held in the district’s administration center, 5050 Barranca Parkway.
