New Irvine elementary school named
The Irvine Unified School District board agreed Tuesday night to name a future school in the Heritage Fields area Beacon Park School.
The board picked the name instead of four other choices: Benchmark School, Paramount School, Beacon School and Cultivate School.
According to school board policy, Irvine elementary schools are named after an adjacent street, park or “village.” The future school will be within the Beacon Park community and bordered by Cultivate, Benchmark, Paramount and Beacon streets. The school is set to open in 2016 with classes for students in kindergarten through eighth grade.
The new school will serve the communities of Pavilion Park and future communities in the Heritage Fields development, near the Orange County Great Park, according to the Irvine Unified website. Beacon Park is the third school set to open in the next year or so in the district.
Portola Springs Elementary School is scheduled to open this fall, and Portola High School is expected to open in 2016.
