Steel picks up support of supervisors
Orange County Board of Supervisors hopeful Michelle Steel announced Friday that she has received endorsements from three current members.
Board Chairman Shawn Nelson, District 1 Supervisor Janet Nguyen and Vice Chairwoman Pat Bates — a majority of the five-member board — support Steel, a Surfside resident, in her bid for the District 2 seat, according to a news release.
“It’s important to have a leader like Michelle on the board to help us keep government spending down and protect the taxpayers of Orange County,” Nelson, who represents District 4, said in the release.
Steel, who is the vice chairwoman for the California Board of Equalization, said she has “a great working relationship” with the supervisors, and “I look forward to continuing that relationship of standing up for Orange County taxpayers on the Board of Supervisors.”
Rep. Ed Royce (R-Fullerton), Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas, who announced late Thursday that he is seeking reelection, Orange County Sheriff Sandra Hutchens and former Assemblyman Jim Silva (R-Huntington Beach), among others, have also endorsed Steel.
Assemblyman Allan Mansoor (R-Costa Mesa), Huntington Beach City Councilman Joe Carchio, former Huntington Beach Mayor Don Hansen, Alan Schlar and Coast Community College District Trustee Jim Moreno have filed paperwork for the June primary election ballot.
Supervisor John Moorlach is termed out of the seat for District 2, which covers Costa Mesa, Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, Seal Beach, Cypress, La Palma, Los Alamitos and Stanton, as well as portions of Buena Park and Fountain Valley.
