Around Town: Marriott hosts Newport Beach Jazz Party

The 15th Newport Beach Jazz Party wraps up its four-day run this weekend with a packed lineup of jazz musicians playing evening concerts, poolside sessions, two brunches and a Valentine’s Day dinner at the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel & Spa, 900 Newport Center Drive.

The Saturday and Sunday schedules run from 9:15 a.m. to about midnight, beginning with brunch and ending with concerts in the Grand Pacific and Newport Coast ballrooms.

The evening shows cost $70 to $85 on Saturday and $60 to $75 on Sunday. Pool sessions between noon and 3:30 p.m. both days are $30, the brunches are $58 and the Valentine’s jazz dinner from 5 to 6:45 p.m. Saturday is $85.

Free tax preparation available

Individuals and families who make $60,000 or less annually can take advantage of free tax preparation and electronic filing services offered by Coastline Community College in partnership with the Orange County United Way and the Internal Revenue Service. The services will be offered from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Fridays from Feb. 20 to April 10 at 12901 Euclid Ave. in Garden Grove. No appointment is necessary.

Preparation services are generally available for Form 1040, including standard and itemized deductions, earned income tax credit and schedules A, B, C-EZ and C. Some returns with certain types of income or expense may not qualify.

Participants must provide the original Social Security cards for themselves and their dependents, plus photo identification, wage and earning statements (Forms W-2 & 1099), Form 1095-A, B or C health insurance statements, interest and dividend statements (Form 1099), educational expense records (Form 1098-T and receipts), copies of last year’s federal and state returns and other relevant information.

The Newport-Mesa Unified School District on Tuesday recognized the achievements of 20 teachers, administrators and employees.

Awareness event benefits Project Hope

The Chuck Jones Center for Creativity in Costa Mesa hosted the second annual Dare to Care Family Night, an awareness event for Project Hope Alliance’s mission to aid Orange County’s homeless population.

Sunday’s event featured area students performing music, along with “214 square feet,” Project Hope’s interactive model that shows the conditions of Orange County’s homeless children.

Project Hope Alliance, a Costa Mesa-based nonprofit, was founded in 2013.
