A 25-year-old Irvine man died after a motorcycle crash Sunday morning, according to police.

Matthew Edmondson was traveling at high speed on a private road near Jamboree Road and Michelson Drive when his motorcycle struck a light pole, Irvine police spokeswoman Farrah Emami said.

Officials responded to the area around 9:45 a.m. and took Edmondson to a local hospital, Emami said.

He died from his injuries just after 10:30 a.m. at Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, according to the Orange County coroner’s office.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash, but impairment from drugs or alcohol did not appear to be a factor, Emami said.
