Young volunteers work hard at diabetes charity
Members of the Youth Leader Program of the PADRE Foundation, an Orange-based diabetes charity, helped renovate the home of a military veteran in Yorba Linda last weekend in a project with Habitat for Humanity.
Tisha Jenkins of Costa Mesa, a volunteer board member with the foundation, created the Youth Leader Program in the past year to give people ages 13 to 18 who have Type 1 diabetes the opportunity to serve as mentors and representatives of PADRE, or Pediatric-Adolescent Diabetes Research and Education. They speak at area high schools about how to stay positive while living with the disease and mentor children ages 7 to 12 who have it.
