A man who was fatally injured when hit by a car while he was lying on the road was identified Friday morning.

Mark Kelly, 47, of Irvine was lying on the westbound lanes of Alton Parkway near Lake Road in Irvine shortly before 12:10 a.m. Thursday when a car struck him, authorities said.

The Orange County Fire Authority took Kelly to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, where he died, coroner’s officials said.

An autopsy was scheduled for Friday, but the cause of death is probably related to multiple traumatic injuries, said Larry Esslinger, supervising deputy coroner.

It is not clear why Kelly was lying on the street, authorities said.

The driver and passenger of the vehicle that hit Kelly remained at the scene afterward. No arrests were made.
