I-405 bridges get retrofit
For the next year, drivers along the 405 Freeway in Costa Mesa and Irvine are going to see construction equipment and crews.
The California Department of Transportation has begun work on retrofitting two bridges over the freeway: Bear Street in Costa Mesa and MacArthur Boulevard in Irvine.
The work will make the bridges more seismically sound for earthquakes, according to Caltrans officials. It will occur during the day and at night, though not on holidays.
Partial closures of the bridges is planned.
The estimated completion date is January 2016.
