Man lying on Irvine road is struck, killed by car
An Irvine man died Thursday morning after a car struck him while he was lying on the road, authorities said.
According to police, witnesses said the man was in the westbound lanes of Alton Parkway near Lake Road when a car hit him shortly before 12:10 a.m.
The Orange County Fire Authority took the man to a local hospital, where he died of his injuries, police said. The man was in his 40s, but his name is being withheld until his next of kin is notified, police said.
“The driver and passenger of the vehicle remained at the scene, and impairment on the part of the driver does not appear to be a factor,” Irvine police spokeswoman Farrah Emami said in a news release. “No arrests have been made.”
Police are investigating why the man was lying on the street, Emami said.
Police asked that anyone with information about the case call detectives at (949) 724-7024.
