Fairview Park committee meeting on sports fields canceled
City officials have canceled a meeting next week that was expected to include discussion about adding sports fields in Fairview Park in Costa Mesa.
Steve Smith, acting chairman of the park’s citizens advisory committee, asked that staff cancel the Feb. 4 meeting because a city staff report on the possibility of constructing sports facilities in the park was not going to be ready in time.
Earlier this month, a committee majority approved an initial study that would examine adding various sports facilities into the park’s southeast quadrant, home of the Orange County Model Engineers. While some said such additions are needed to meet community demand, others argued against losing passive open spaces within the 208-acre park.
The committee’s next meeting is tentatively scheduled for March 4.
