New candidate in race for state Senate
A Laguna Niguel woman has entered the race for the state Senate seat representing the 37th District, according to county registrar data.
Naz Namazi, 47, joins two other Republicans in vying for the seat vacated by Mimi Walters, who was elected last year to Congress. The special election to fill the vacancy is scheduled for March 17.
Namazi, who did not respond to multiple requests for an interview, works as an aide to U.S. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Costa Mesa) and is a Realtor. She is a UC Irvine graduate and has worked on documentary films, according to her LinkedIn profile.
Namazi faces former county Supervisor John Moorlach and Assemblyman Don Wagner (R-Irvine) in the race for the 37th District, which includes Costa Mesa, Newport Beach, Irvine, Laguna Beach and portions of Huntington Beach.
