A firefighter was injured early Saturday while battling a duplex fire in Newport Beach.

Just after midnight, a caller reported smoke and flames coming from the upper portion of the two-story structure in the 500 block of Clubhouse Avenue on the Balboa Peninsula.

Fire crews from Newport Beach, Costa Mesa and Huntington Beach knocked down the fire within 30 minutes. The lower unit sustained smoke and water damage, according to a news release.

The injured firefighter was taken to a local hospital, treated and released the same day, said Newport Beach police and fire spokeswoman Jennifer Manzella.
