Two Newport-Mesa residents were recently chosen to represent state Assembly District 74 at this year’s state Democratic convention.

Jean Ardell of Newport Beach and Liz McNabb of Costa Mesa were elected Saturday during a meeting of local Democrats in Laguna Woods called specifically to settle on the representation for the 74th.

Ardell is president of the Newport Beach Women’s Democratic Club. McNabb is a member and the founding treasurer of the Costa Mesa Democratic Club.

Ardell and McNabb will attend the May conference in Anaheim, where the Democrats will plan their party platform for the upcoming year. The delegates, elected for two years, will also write resolutions and attend executive board meetings throughout their terms.

“It’s the first time in many years that the convention is being held in Orange County,” McNabb said in an email. “We plan to educate the 2,000 participants that O.C. has over 450,000 registered Democrats and the demographics are shifting in our favor.”

Each of California’s 80 Assembly districts has 14 delegates, seven women and seven men.
