Taco tycoon to appear on ‘Secret Millionaire’
Local restaurateur Wing Lam will star in an episode of ABC’s “Secret Millionaire” at 8 p.m. Sunday.
Modeled after the similarly named British series, the show spotlights successful entrepreneurs as they travel — undercover — to impoverished and dangerous parts of the United States. Not only do they take a week-long hiatus from luxury, but also search for individuals and organizations serving their communities. Narrated by actor Blair Underwood, “Secret Millionaire” concludes when the tycoons reveal their true identities and donate funds to worthy causes.
Lam, the co-founder of Wahoo’s Fish Taco, has more than 60 restaurants nationwide to his name and was 27 years old when he earned his first million. On Sunday, viewers follow him to Mobile, AL, a city still reeling from the aftershocks of the Gulf oil spill in 2010. During his week there, Lam encounters day shelter 15 Place, Tri-Coastal Community Outreach, a nonprofit, and a local crabber. His surprise leaves these community heroes reeling when it’s time to leave.
