Emilie Jean Hammeras April 22, 1926 - September 7, 2013
Jeany Hammeras, of Irvine, passed away September 7, 2013 in Newport Beach, CA. She was 87. A celebration of her life will be held at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Laguna Beach on Saturday, October 5 at 4 p.m. A private burial took place on September 14 at Pacific View Memorial Park.
Jeany was born on April 22, 1926 in Santa Monica to Jack and Aleen Ferris. She was the second of three daughters. She attended University High School and UCLA. She married Raymond Hammeras on August 15, 1947. Her life’s work consisted of raising five children, Karen, Lynn, Kent, Tod and Kristin. She was a teacher’s aide and school librarian at Newport Elementary School for several years. In the early eighties she helped establish Phase II Systems, The PARS Trust Administrator, with husband Ray and their close friends Mike and Del Johnson. Jeany’s vital passions in life were God, her family, and helping others; she was also passionately creative, which she expressed through painting, interior design, quilting, weaving, mosaic work, and sewing.
Jeany and Ray were active in several churches over the years. Jeany was a popular Bible teacher, Elder, and choir member at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Newport Beach. Later she was a Deacon at Presbyterian Church of the Master in Mission Viejo, and most recently, was a greatly loved member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Laguna Beach. She was continually aware of God’s presence in her life, communicating that awareness with enthusiasm and joy, leading many others to recognize God’s love for themselves, and impacting many people for Christ.
Jeany is preceded in death by her sister Janice Flynn, her sister Jacqueline Meeks, and her parents, Jack and Aleen Ferris. She is survived by her husband Ray; her daughters Karen Zfaty, Lynn Hammeras and partner Kathy White, and Kristin Hammeras-Hogarth and husband Ross Hogarth; her sons, Kent Hammeras and wife Lori, and Tod Hammeras and wife Candy;seven grandchildren and step grandchildren, Isaac Zfaty and wife Megan, John Hammeras, Summer Hammeras, Jackie Roll, Grant Roll and wife Ashley, Emilie Hammeras, and Brady Hogarth; and two great granddaughters, Charlotte Zfaty and Ruby Hammeras. She was also a second mother to many.
In lieu of flowers, she would be pleased to be remembered with a donation to the parish she loved, St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 428 Park Ave., Laguna Beach, CA 92651.
