Dr. Jack M. Hirshon<br/>1928 -2015
Dr. Jack M. Hirshon of New Port Richey, Florida passed away in March, 2015 at the age of 86.
Smilin’ Jack grew up in Boston, MA, attending Boston Latin before receiving his undergraduate degree from Boston College and his PhD from Columbia University in Physical Chemistry. He was a pioneer in the field of semiconductor research and microchip technology. Jack was an avid skier, outdoorsman and adventurer. While living in Newport Beach, CA, Jack fell in love with the ocean. His passion was sailing and he enjoyed racing in the Newport to Ensenada International Yacht Race and Beer Can Regattas. He learned to fly at Orange County Airport, and loved flying small aircraft, becoming a certified flight instructor-instrument. In Florida, Jack became a hotelier, with properties in Bonifay and Holiday.
Jack is predeceased by his ex-wife Lilly and daughter Constanze. He is survived by his son Jon Mark, daughters Susanna and Jacqueline, son-in-laws Tom and Mark, daughter-in-laws Cecilia and Cindy, and 4 grandchildren. He will be remembered with great love and affection by his closest friends, Mary Beth, Tamara, and Jimmy
Jack was a generous patron of the arts. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kathleen Monahan Foundation and New Century Opera, Tarpon Springs, FL.
He will be missed.
