C.H. “Hunt” Holladay, Jr.<br/>July 12, 1933 - February 4, 2015
Loving husband, father and general good guy, Hunt Holladay died suddenly on February 4, 2015 at the age of 81.
C.H. “Hunt” Holladay, Jr. was born July 12, 1933 in Pasadena, California, the only child of Margaret Purinton Broad and Collis Huntington Holladay. Hunt attended elementary school at Polytechnic School in Pasadena and high school at The Webb School in Claremont, California, ultimately graduating from Philips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts. Although he earned his diploma from Andover, he felt he learned many of his values while a student at Webb. He attended college at the California Institute of Technology earning his BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1956. While at Caltech, Hunt loved the pranking that has been endemic there for many years and was an enthusiastic resident of Fleming House.
Shortly after graduating from Caltech, Hunt married Janet Chandler and began a career as an engineer in the oil drilling industry, working for Mobil Oil and Baker Oil Tools in many oil fields in the United States and South America. Hunt’s work required that the growing family move periodically. As a result each of the three children was born in different states.
Family obligations brought Hunt and his family back to California in the early 1970’s, settling in Newport Beach where they lived for more than 40 years.
Hunt was very active on the boards of the Society for the Prevention of Blindness and The Associates at Caltech, serving terms as president of both organizations. His deep regard for preserving the history of the California and the Huntington family led to service with the Friends of the Huntington Library.
He loved to play golf and was an active member of Santa Ana Country Club for more than 30 years. Hunt and Janet travelled widely, playing golf all over the world.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, three children, and three grandchildren.
The family asks that donation be made in the honor of Hunt Holladay to Caltech (Pasadena, CA) or Hoag Hospital (Newport Beach, CA).
