Newport lawyer to become a judge

Gov. Jerry Brown this week announced the appointment of a Newport Beach woman to the Orange County Superior Court bench, according to a news release.

Terri K. Flynn-Peister, 38, of Newport Beach previously worked as deputy chief assistant U.S. attorney for the Central California District, according to the governor’s Thursday announcement.

Before that, Flynn-Peister was an assistant U.S. attorney for the boarder crimes unit between 2001 and 2002, and worked at Latham & Watkins LLP between 1999 2001, according to the announcement.

Flynn-Peister is a graduate of Tulane University Law School and the University of California, San Diego. Flynn-Peister, a Democrat, fills the vacancy left by retiring Judge Kazuharu Makino.

She will earn $178,789 a year.
