Man guilty of Newport Beach rape
A Yorba Linda man was convicted for the second time Thursday of raping three women, including one at a Newport Beach hotel.
Jason Ara Erpinar, 23, was found guilty of two felony charges of rape by intoxication and one charge of forcible rape.
He was previously convicted and sentenced after pleading guilty, but later withdrew his plea, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s office.
He is expected to be sentenced at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 26 in Department N-13 at the North Justice Center in Fullerton. He faces a maximum sentence of 24 years in state prison.
Erpinar took a 22-year-old woman he met on MySpace on a date March 26, 2008, to two Orange County parks. The two drank alcohol, and the woman became severely intoxicated.
Erpinar took her to a Newport Beach hotel and raped her. When the victim woke up the next morning she had a cracked tooth and several scrapes on her face.
She went to the hospital and filed a report with the Newport Beach Police Department.
Erpinar had already raped another victim, an 18-year-old woman he also meet on MySpace, at a house party March 7, 2009 in La Habra. The first victim was also unable to resist, due to alcohol.
The third victim was Erpinar’s ex-girlfriend who reported the 2007 rape after police contacted her while investigating the first victim’s claims.
