Costa Mesa police detain man on suspicion of rape

Costa Mesa police detained a Murrieta man suspected of raping and robbing a woman in a Temecula motel, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Melbrough Williams, 44, is suspected of meeting the woman at the Quality Inn at 27338 Jefferson Ave., where he allegedly raped and robbed her at gunpoint, according to Riverside County sheriffs.

Authorities in Riverside tracked Williams to Costa Mesa, where police detained him about 5 p.m. Friday, according to jail records.

He is being held in Riverside’s Robert Presley Detention Center on four felony charges of kidnapping for ransom with injury, strong-arm robbery, rape and rape by foreign object, according to jail records.
