NEWPORT BEACH — Police on Tuesday found the body of dead a woman in her early 40s in a Newport Beach home swimming pool.

Construction workers working on an adjacent home saw the corpse floating in a pool on the 1800 block of Tahuna Terrace and called for help shortly after 8 a.m., Newport Beach Police Lt. Rob Morton said.

The woman, whose identify was not released pending notification next of kin, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman did not appear to be a resident of the Irvine Terrace home. It was unclear how long she had been dead.

She was housesitting through a company while the property owners were away on vacation, said Sgt. Ron Vallercamp.

The home, located at 1810 Tahuna Terrace, is owned by James Driscoll and Jane Buchan, according to 2009 Orange County property records. Jane Buchan could not be reached for comment at a number listed for her office.

Construction workers at the scene, who asked not to be identified, told the Daily Pilot that they did not see any visible injuries to the body.

The cause is still under investigation, though police have not ruled out foul play, Vallercamp said.
