Seven-car crash injures one, closes Coast Highway

A driver who crossed into oncoming traffic on East Coast Highway initiated a seven-car crash that injured one and later closed the thoroughfare, authorities said Tuesday.

The woman was driving westbound near Morning Canyon Road in Corona del Mar when she crossed into the eastbound traffic, hitting another vehicle at about 5:30 p.m. Monday, police said. The collision started a chain reaction.

Despite the seven-car pileup, only one person was taken to Hoag Hospital, Fire Department officials said in an email.

Coast Highway was closed for two hours. Police said they made no arrests, and the detailed cause of the accident remains under investigation.
