Man sentenced for resisting Newport police
A Colorado man was sentenced to three months in jail Thursday after pleading guilty to resisting Newport Beach police.
Chase Julian Rohrer, 33, was arrested Sunday after police stopped him and another person for riding their bicycles on the sidewalk near Ticonderoga Street and Superior Avenue — a municipal offense. Rohrer fled, but was arrested after a short struggle with an officer, police said.
The officer was injured and a handgun and drugs were found in Rohrer’s backpack, authorities said.
Though police booked Rohrer for drugs and weapons along with resisting police, prosecutors only charged him with fighting the officer. He was also sentenced to pay restitution and three years informal probation.
The person riding alongside Rohrer when he was arrested got away.
