Irvine City Council to vote on replicating county sex offender ban

Irvine’s City Council on Tuesday will consider a municipal ordinance that would keep sex offenders out of parks and playgrounds, and would resemble an Orange County ordinance adopted recently to restrict registered sex offenders’ movements at such places frequented by children.

Councilman Jeff Lalloway is asking that the council consider a citywide ordinance that would ban sex offenders from city parks and playgrounds unless they get special written permission from the Orange County sheriff.

Violators would face up to six months in jail or a $500-fine, according to a news release issued Monday by Lalloway.
