Sex offender arrested two weeks after release
Less than two weeks after his release from jail, a homeless sex offender known to frequent the Newport-Mesa was arrested for a parole violation, police said.
Curtis Regulus, 40, was arrested Wednesday at Lions Park in Costa Mesa near the library for allegedly violating conditions of his parole, which requires him to stay away from parks, playgrounds and swimming pools, according to the Costa Mesa Police Department.
Regulus was released from jail March 20, the same day he was sentenced to two years in state prison for rubbing his pelvis against a 14-year-old girl on a bus and again at a crosswalk, according to the Orange County district attorney and Sheriff’s Department records.
He was released because of credit he got for time served in jail awaiting trial.
Regulus has a history of rubbing his pelvis against others, and has six convictions for similar offenses dating from 2007.
He was being held without bail because his alleged offense was a parole violation.
