Soroptimists accepting applications to honor female wage earners
Soroptimist International of Laguna Beach is looking to honor a woman who is the primary wage earner for her family and working to advance her education. The group is now accepting applications.
Since 1972, the Soroptimist Women’s Opportunity Awards program has provided women who serve as primary wage earners with the financial resources to offset costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education or additional skills and training.
The Live Your Dreams Award can be used for tuition, books, child care, transportation or any other education-related expense.
The Laguna Beach club will provide a $2,500 cash grant to its award recipient, who will advance to the Soroptimist Region level, from which one person will be chosen to receive $5,000. The program culminates in the awarding of $10,000 each to three finalists.
To qualify, applicants must demonstrate financial need, be enrolled in or have been accepted to a vocational training or undergraduate degree program and live in one of Soroptimist International’s regions, according to a news release.
Soroptimist employees and family members are not eligible for the award.
