Supplies, money sought for Laguna’s hurricane-ravaged sister city
Laguna Beach residents can help Laguna’s Mexican sister city, San Jose del Cabo, in the wake of Hurricane Odile, a Category 3 storm that tore through the Baja California peninsula early this week and left hundreds without water and power.
Laguna Nursery is collecting batteries, cellphone chargers, lanterns, cleaning supplies, mosquito repellent, bottles of water and other goods from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily at 1370 S. Coast Highway.
“There’s no electricity – no way to purify water or basically get things going, so manpower is needed,” said Laguna Nursery owner Ruben Flores, who has family in the San Jose del Cabo area.
Donated supplies will be shipped beginning next week, Flores said.
Money can be donated through checks made out to the Laguna Beach Sister Cities Association, with “Hurricane Odile 2014” written in the memo section. Mail checks to LBSCA, P.O. Box 1011, Laguna Beach, CA 92652.
