Police join in Special Olympics torch run
About 30 Special Olympics athletes and law enforcement officers escorted the Flame of Hope through Laguna Beach on Monday in a symbolic display of solidarity.
The Flame of Hope is the official torch of the Special Olympics World Games, which begin Saturday in Los Angeles.
The torch made its way through several Southern California cities as law enforcement officers spread the message of acceptance and inclusion for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
The Games, which run through Aug. 2, are expected to draw 6,500 athletes from 165 countries.
