July Fourth: Road closures, trolley changes, traffic alerts
Laguna Beach officials are expecting large crowds to celebrate Independence Day on Saturday and are seeking the public’s help to keep traffic congestion at a minimum.
The annual fireworks show will begin at 9 p.m. above Heisler Park, but the Monument Point area will be closed all day Saturday in preparation for the event.
An area between Myrtle and Jasmine streets will also be closed to the public beginning at 5 p.m.
City trolleys will operate on a modified schedule from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. The normal trolley schedule will resume Sunday.
The city is expecting heavy traffic after the fireworks show as visitors leave the city on Laguna Canyon Road and Coast Highway. To help ease congestion, the center lane of Laguna Canyon Road between Canyon Acres Drive and El Toro Road will be used as an additional outbound traffic lane.
The public is prohibited from igniting fireworks in the city.
The farmers market will not be held Saturday but will resume July 11.
