Laguna Canyon Road was closed for nearly 12 hours late Sunday and early Monday after a car struck a utility pole, Laguna Beach police said.

A 42-year-old Lake Forest man, who was driving a Toyota 4Runner and heading south on Laguna Canyon Road, struck and severed a pole in the 2400 block at 10:04 p.m. Sunday, causing power lines to hang close to the asphalt, Sgt. Tim Kleiser wrote in an email.

The man was not injured and alcohol was not a factor in the incident, which forced police to close the entire road until 10 a.m. Monday, Kleiser said. No other cars were involved and traffic was rerouted.
