Workshop to focus on land use in the canyon

Laguna Beach and urban planning firm MIG will host a public workshop June 25 to review zoning and land-use standards in Laguna Canyon, according to a news release.

The workshop will be the first of several opportunities for the public to participate in determining if existing zoning laws are sufficient.

Development standards in the canyon, which is a mix of single-family houses and small businesses, received heightened attention last year with projects such as Louis Longi’s 30-unit artist work/live facility.

Longi’s project is on hold, pending the outcome of a lawsuit filed in Orange County Superior Court challenging the state Coastal Commission’s approval of the facility in January.

The workshop, which will include an overview of existing conditions, will begin at 6 p.m. at the Laguna Beach Community & Susi Q Center, 380 Third. St.
