Work starts to put electrical cables underground on Ruby, Catalina streets
Crews began work on four Laguna Beach streets Monday to pave the way for electrical cables to be placed underground, according to a news release.
The workers are digging small holes to identify any wires below the ground so they aren’t damaged during the larger-scale trench digging, which is expected to begin later this month.
The trenches on Ruby and Catalina streets, Ruby Place, and Radcliffe Court will hold the conduits — PVC pipes that will house the cables.
This work should be done by the end of August, and streets will remain open during construction, Public Works Director Steve May said.
The utility companies will then install cables and other equipment and connect homes to the underground system.
Finally, above-ground poles and wires will be removed. The entire project should be done in one year.
