Brush-eating goats have returned to Laguna

A Laguna Beach tradition is back.

More than 100 goats are eating dead brush in Bluebird Canyon to provide a buffer against potential fires.

The city has used the animals, along with hand crews, to clear brush in various areas for the last several years.

The goats, which came from the Indacochea Sheep Ranch in Wildomar, will move to the hillside behind City Hall once they are finished in Bluebird Canyon, Fire Chief Jeff LaTendresse said.

The city is encouraging residents to do their part to ensure property safety during a wildfire through the Ready! Set! Go! program. For information, visit the Fire Department website, lagunabeachcity.net/cityhall/fire.
