Kelpfest takes over Main Beach
Visitors flocked to Laguna Beach’s Main Beach on Saturday for the sixth annual Kelpfest hosted by the nonprofit Laguna Ocean Foundation.
The event, which celebrates the resurgence of the kelp forests, featured educational exhibits and replicas of marine life, such as a giant sea bass.
For more than 20 years, Laguna Beach’s kelp forests had declined by as much as 80%. But in the past nine years, thousands of people have worked to restore these critical habitats, according to the Kelpfest website.
