Nominations sought for Violet Richardson award

Soroptimist International of Laguna Beach is seeking nominations for the Violet Richardson award.

The annual honor is given to a girl between 14 and 17 who makes the community and world a better place through volunteer efforts, such as fighting drug use, crime and violence, improving the environment and working to alleviate discrimination and poverty.

Volunteer efforts that benefit girls and women are given special consideration.

Applications are available at

silagunabeach.org/violet-richardson-award/. They should be submitted by 9 p.m. April 30.

The award recipient will receive $1,000 and be recognized in June at a Soroptimist event.

Soroptimist International of Laguna Beach is a volunteer organization for business and professional women dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls in local communities and throughout the world.

Founded in 1948, the Laguna Beach club is part of Soroptimist International of the Americas, where almost 100,000 Soroptimists worldwide contribute time and financial support to community-based projects that benefit women, according to a news release.
