Police put on a show for bike safety
About 500 people turned out to learn safe-cycling tips and watch stunts performed by professional racers during the Laguna Beach Police Department’s bike rodeo Sunday.
The free event featured an obstacle course in the Festival of the Arts parking lot for riders to test their cycling abilities.
Pro BMX athlete Robert Castillo’s Freestyle Team performed for the crowd.
Bicyclist safety has garnered added attention since the death in June of Laguna Beach resident John Colvin, who was struck by a car while riding along North Coast Highway near Irvine Cove.
The Orange County district attorney’s office filed charges last month against 20-year-old Dylan Randluby, a Emerald Bay resident accused of felony hit-and-run and misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter in the collision.
