Body of missing teen found at Shell Beach

Authorities have identified a body found floating in the water Wednesday afternoon at Shell Beach in South Laguna as 18-year-old Anthony Parnell who went missing 10 days earlier.

A homeowner in Three Arch Bay reported a man’s body at 4:15 p.m. and a team of Orange County and Laguna Beach lifeguards took the body to an Orange County Sheriff’s Department boat, county lifeguards Capt. Brad Herzog said.

Parnell, from Las Vegas, was believed to have been walking along a rocky outcropping south of Thousand Steps Beach on Feb. 8 when a wave pulled him and a 17-year-old girl into the surf, which averaged 5 to 8 feet that day, Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi said at the time.

Friends pulled the girl out, but Parnell disappeared.
