A Laguna Beach Unified School District after-school program is expanding to help students transitioning into middle school and high school.

Enrollment is open for the JUNTOS peer mentoring program, which will provide academic support and boost organizational skills, according to a news release. The program, which began in 2004-05, is free and open to students in grades four through 12. It is designed to help students strengthen their English-speaking skills.

Classes meet from 2:30 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays in Room 90 above the Laguna Beach High School pool at 670 Park Ave.

Twenty Laguna Beach High students were chosen as mentors based on their academic achievement, availability and positive attitude, the release said.

“JUNTOS will promote respect and honesty in a place where students will feel comfortable to ask for help,” instructor Yadhira Rojas said in the release.
