City gets grant for water-saving median

The Municipal Water District of Orange County has approved a request from Laguna Beach for a grant to cover the cost of replacing the grass with mulch on the Laguna Canyon Road median.

Removing the turf is expected to save 1 million gallons of water per year and prevent erosion, according to a news release.

The City Council directed city staff in November to turn off the water in the median and apply for the grant, expected to be just shy of $100,000. Work is expected to begin in mid-February.
