New signs, sharrows mark bike routes
Laguna Beach has finished installing signs and painting sharrows — markings indicating lanes shared with vehicles — on certain streets to designate bike routes approved by the City Council in October, according to a news release.
The council approved five miles of shared bike routes to steer cyclists away from Coast Highway. The city installed 50 signs and painted 236 sharrows.
A separate lane dedicated just to bikes, along Monterey Drive, was also approved. Signs are in place and crews will be painting lane markers there in the next two weeks.
A layout of the bike route can be viewed on the city’s website, lagunabeachcity.net.
The city also installed additional bike racks in the Peppertree parking lot between Forest and Ocean avenues. The racks, which can handle 12 more bikes — 16 total — are along the lot’s west side. Signs indicating the available racks were also installed.
