KX 93.5 raises more than $27,000
Laguna’s only FM radio station, KX 93.5, raised more than $27,000 during its winter membership drive, according to a news release.
Residents, city officials and business owners traded off manning the airwaves during one-hour segments Dec. 15 and 16 to bring in the funds.
KX 93.5 is a nonprofit, non-commercial station that features alternative rock from the 1960s to today, current event segments and surf reports.
Outgoing Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce President Larry Nokes claimed the Silver Tongue award for the guest disc jockey who raised the most money during his or her hour on the air.
Volunteer DJs included Mayor Bob Whalen, Councilwoman Toni Iseman, businessmen Mark Christy and Chuck Harrell, The 133 Film Group’s Clay Berryhill and Bobbi Cox, who said she would match every contribution during her hour show.
KX 93.5’s membership program starts at $50 a year and gives listeners access to certain benefits like discounts at local businesses and early access to Festival of Music tickets. For more information, visit
