Laguna district meeting will focus on math instruction
Efforts to create engaging, real-life and rigorous math instruction to help prepare Laguna Beach Unified School District students — starting in kindergarten — to be college- and career-ready will be the focus of a lecture Jan. 13.
Mathematician Patrick Callahan will discuss the shifts in instruction — related to the Common Core State Standards — that will result in students taking either calculus or statistics in their senior year.
The lecture is a repeat of a talk that Callahan, co-director of the California Mathematics Project, gave last fall. The California Mathematics Project prepares teachers to help students become proficient in the subject.
The lecture begins at 6 p.m. in Thurston’s Black Box Theater, 2100 Park Ave.
