Skateboard proposal moves forward

The Parking/Traffic/Circulation Committee has received a comprehensive report from the Laguna Beach Police Department regarding proposed skateboard regulations, according to former City Manager Ken Frank. The report indicates that some of the recommended policies already exist in the Vehicle Code—to whit, skateboarding is a pedestrian activity, skaters under 18 are supposed to wear helmets — and that some would conflict with the Vehicle Code. The Committee voted to forward their draft proposed drdinance and the police department report to the City Council. The proposal will likely be presented to the Council in February, according to Frank’s Dec. 3 Friday Update.
