Woman’s Club hosts holiday lunch, sale

The Laguna Beach Woman’s Club holiday lunch and Tarnished Treasures sale will be at 11 a.m. Dec. 4 at the club, 286 St. Ann’s Drive. Event organizer Sande St. John said the silent auction will be full of presents for bidders to give or keep for themselves, including restaurant dinners, art work, jewelry and Pageant of the Masters tickets.

The Tarnished Treasures sale will offer hundreds of useful and decorative items at great prices. A lunch will be served by the White House restaurant. All proceeds from the lunch and sale benefit the club. Reservations are required, by sending $20 per member check to the club. The cost is $25 for guests and for those who pay at the door. Hospital reports good year

Michael Beck, Mission Hospital Laguna Beach administrator, reported on the hospital’s first year in Laguna Beach at the Nov. 16 meeting of the Laguna Beach City Council.

“It has been financially successful,” Beck said.

The hospital spent more than $2 million on capital improvement and would have spent more if state processes had been speedier, Beck said.

State required expenditures for public benefits were exceeded, he said. The hospital served 25,000 Meals on Wheels and provided lunches five days a week for people at the alternative sleeping site.

Providing Christmas for families in need

The Woman’s Club of Laguna Beach is offering two ways to help families in need have a brighter Christmas.

The annual holiday party for low-income families will be noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 5 at the club, 286 St. Ann’s Drive. Donations of clean and gently used clothing, blankets, linens, shoes and houseware will be given free to the families. Santa will be there to entertain the children while their parents “shop” for needed items. Donations may be dropped off from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 3 or from 8 a.m. to noon Dec. 5. Unwrapped new toys are also needed.

The Adopt-a-Family program is another way of bringing holiday cheer to the children. Adopters may be individuals, families, churches, organizations, or businesses who adopt a low-income family in Laguna Beach and buy toys or clothing for the children and a basket of food for a festive holiday dinner. For more information, or to adopt a family, call Sande St. John, (949) 633-9429 or Marsha Bode, (949) 244-2010.
