Meet the press event slated

The Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce is holding a “Meet the Press” luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 12 at Aliso Creek Inn, 31106 Coast Hwy., Laguna Beach.

The event kicks off a new Social Media Marketing Series, “New Thinking in Marketing, an integrated approach to today’s marketing strategies.” The series will continue on Tuesdays, Nov. 16 through Dec. 10.

On Nov. 12, members of four local news outlets have been invited to present information on how to obtain publicity and “make the news” in Laguna Beach. Representatives of the Coastline Pilot, Laguna Beach Independent, Laguna News Post and Laguna Beach Times are expected to attend.

South Laguna garden honored

The Southern California Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects presented a Merit Award for the South Laguna Community Garden to garden advisor and donor, Ann Christoph, Landscape Architect ASLA and the South Laguna Civic Assn. on Oct. 28. The event was held at the Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach. Present with Christoph to receive the award were Ruben Flores of Laguna Nursery, Pamela Galera, president of SCCASLA, and Bill Rihn, president of the South Laguna Civic Assn.

Roley to speak at Garden Club

“Designing Perennial and Annual Gardens into an Urban Agro Forest” is the topic for the Nov. 12 meeting of the Laguna Beach Garden Club.

Bill Roley, an environmentalist and educator for more than four decades, will describe his own 40-year-old edible garden called Sprout Acres in Laguna Beach, and how the lessons learned can apply to ornamental gardens.

In addition to his current teaching and consulting activities, Roley is the founding director of the Permaculture Institute of Southern California and a co-founder of the Eos Institute for Sustainable Living, both Laguna Beach nonprofit organizations.

The meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Neighborhood Congregational Church, 340 St. Ann’s Drive. The meeting is free one time for guests. For more information, visit https://www.lagunabeachgardenclub.org.

Talk about love and communication

Motivational speaker and therapist Pat Allen will talk on the topic “Committing Ourselves to a Lifestyle of Love and Authentic Communication with Cherishing and Respect” from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Susi Q Senior Center, 380 Third St.

The free program is sponsored by the Laguna Beach branch of the American Assn. of University Women. Allen’s will describe the difference between female and male brains, help women make the choice between being a career woman or a woman with a career, and weighing the need for respect versus the need to be cherished.
