Teen falls from 50-foot cliff

A 17-year-old was taken to Mission Hospital Laguna Beach after falling off a 50-foot cliff early Sunday morning.

Police were first called to the Aliso Creek Inn at 10:45 p.m. Saturday to break up a large party. A couple hours later, at 12:32 a.m., dispatchers received a call regarding a male teenager that went missing. He was located prior to their arrival at the bottom of a cliff near Country Club Drive.

Police believe the teen ran away when police arrived earlier in the night because he was heavily intoxicated and wanted to avoid officers, Lt. Jason Kravetz said. He jumped over a barrier, hoping to hide behind it, but fell and landed in the creek below.

Kravetz said the teen suffered from hypothermia and extreme intoxication from alcohol.

Vehicle fire extinguished on Laguna Canyon Road

The Orange County Fire Authority and Laguna Beach police responded to a vehicle fire where Laguna Canyon Road meets the 73 Toll Road on Monday afternoon.

Dispatch received a call at 2:03 p.m., and multiple engines responded to the call in case the fire spread to adjacent vegetation.

OCFA Fire Capt. Mark Stone said the fire was extinguished as of 2:30 p.m., and it had not spread to vegetation.

Although there was an earlier call regarding people trapped in the vehicle, he said he did not believe there were any injuries.

Police report quiet Halloween week

Laguna Beach police said that alcohol-related arrests did not go up this year and were nearly identical to 2010.

There were 10 DUI arrests between Oct. 28 to Nov. 3, same as last year, and three public intoxication arrests, which is one less than last year, according to Lt. Jason Kravetz.

New firefighters come to Laguna

The Laguna Beach Fire Department swore in five new firefighters Monday.

Jeff White, Jereme Lazar, Zack De John, Sean Daugherty and Patrick Cary were welcomed into the department and will begin a two-week orientation academy program.
