The eight pieces are from YMCA’s Youth Art Exhibition and were chosen by a panel of professional artists.

Six artists from Don Juan Avila Elementary School and Middle School were honored by the council: Savannah Alexis Ferris, 9; Tara Lynne Russell, 10; Kathryn Nie, 11; Piper Hein, 13; and Aubrey Joy Barker, 9.

The children explained the inspiration and thoughts behind their works.

Tara said she was inspired by a teacher when she did her piece. It shows ladder-like images criss-crossing across the canvas, with a bright yellow door at the end of one near the middle.

Many paths lead to different places, but only one leads to the “door of opportunity,” which the title of the piece, she said.

Savannah admitted that she didn’t know what to draw and just drew “random lines, colored them and painted them.”

It just came together, she said.

“I wish government came together that easily,” Cave said with a laugh.

The remaining artists will be recognized at the Nov. 16 meeting.

Town Center wireless facility OKd

The council approved the installation of a T-Mobile wireless facility in Aliso Viejo Town Center.

It will be the first wireless facility in the bustling center, which is also in the middle of a coverage gap, said Jennifer Lowe, city associate planner.

The wireless facility is in the CT zoning district, which is the third location preference for the facility. The city would rather it be on an existing wireless collocation or on a site within business park or professional office districts.

T-Mobile explained that there were no available collocation sites and that the coverage gap needed to be filled. This also explains why it could not be in a business park district, which is not in the coverage gap.

Towing company given go-ahead

The council discussed a new business, S & K Towing, which plans to move into 31 Argonaut.

According to the staff report, the company is contracted by Orange County Sheriff’s Department as its tow truck provider.

The council discussed the visibility of vehicles, such as towed vehicles, trucks and RVs, which are stored at the facility.

The council approved the item, but Cave added the condition that RVs must be stored indoors.

S & K Towing said that it will also keep towed vehicles in a warehouse, behind a wall and gate.
