The Boys & Girls Club is hosting a free Family Fun Night, which will focus on nutrition, fitness and healthy lifestyles.
The event will bring parents and children together from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Nov. 3 at the club’s main branch, 1085 Laguna Canyon Road.
Taco Bell will provide dinner off its healthier Fresco Menu, which includes burritos and tacos that have less than 9 grams of fat. After dinner, families can play the club’s “Be Healthy Jeopardy” game, work on an art project or dance the cha-cha, according to a news release.
The club will honor the Woodard family, who was chosen to participate in the Boys & Girls Club of America’s Triple Play Fit Family Challenge. Five families from across the country have been selected and will compete in the six-week challenge to make better healthy lifestyle choices daily. The Woodards will represent Laguna Beach.
The winning family will win a cash prize for themselves and for their local Boys & Girls Club, according to the news release.
“We are so proud of the Woodard family and that they were selected to participate in this national Fit Family Challenge,” Pamela Estes, executive director for the club, said in a statement. “The club has worked very hard to instill healthy habits in our young people, and we are so excited that the whole family has gotten involved in a new healthy lifestyle. When that happens, it takes the impact of what we are doing to a whole new life-changing level.”

Drama program putting on two musicals
Laguna Beach High School’s drama program is presenting two musicals — “Aladdin” and “Into the Woods” — in November.
“Aladdin,” based on the popular Disney movie, will be staged at Thurston Middle School’s Black Box Theatre and runs from Nov. 4 to 13. Tickets are $10 for students, $15 for adults.
Steven Sondheim’s “Into the Woods” starts Nov. 11 and runs until Nov. 20 at LBHS’s Artists’ Theatre.
“It is definitely the most challenging piece of theater we could attempt,” said Tracey Bonner, director of “Into the Woods.” “No question, this is an intricate piece of musical theater, especially for high school kids to pull off.”
Tickets for “Into the Woods” are $10 for students, $15 for adults and $20 for premium seats.
