Pearson has sizable campaign fund lead

Mayor Elizabeth Pearson continues to hold the lead in fundraising among the four candidates for a seat on the City Council.

Pearson has raised a total of $53,043 — $6,389 of it donated between June 30, when the last campaign statements were filed and Sept. 1, the cut off date for the second statements.

Councilman Kelly Boyd raised $7,440 since his July statement was filed, for a total of $32,120.

Mayor Pro Tem Toni Iseman came in third with a total of $20,839.52, all of it raised since July 1.

Emanuel Patrascu trails the incumbents in donations and expenses. He has raised a total of $6,764 — $2,344 of it after July 1.

He paid $1,184.84, coded LIT, for campaign literature and mailings to six companies in the same suite at same address on Ivy Glenn Drive in Laguna Niguel. He also paid $1,746 to Philerobtic Printing and $1,946 to Powers Communication in Aliso Viejo, coded for campaign paraphernalia and miscellaneous. Professional services by his campaign treasurer cost Patrascu $809.

Patrascu continues to draw most of his financial support from outside Laguna.

Pearson’s expenses totaled $10,505,29 this reporting period, including donations returned to Waste Management, Doctor’s Ambulance Service and Cox Communications, all of which have contracts with the city. She also paid for ads in the California Voter Guide in Torrance and Continuing the Republican Revolution in Newport Beach.

Boyd’s spent $6,212, $1,812 for campaign literature printed by Super Dave and $1,575 to the California Voters Guide in Sherman Oaks.

Iseman’s expenses included $3,477 to Laguna Digital, $800 for literature and $460 for a fundraising event.

All four candidates paid the city $1,000 for candidate filing/ballot fees.

The next financial statements will cover Oct. 1 to 16, due Oct. 25.

Final Candidate Forum

Three neighborhood associations have joined forces to present the fourth and last forum scheduled for City Council candidates.

The forum will be held at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday in the City Council Chambers, 505 Forest Ave., presented by associations representing Top of the World, Temple Hills and South Laguna, but voters don’t have to live in the neighborhoods to attend and question the candidates.

Candidates will be given two minutes each for opening statements,, followed by questions from the public. Questions will be limited to one minute, responses to 90 seconds.

Ballot measures meeting

Pros and cons of initiatives on the November ballot will be the focus of a Town Hall meeting, presented by the League of Women voters at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 429 Cypress Drive.
