Laguna woman leads Race for the Cure

When the Laguna Beach Soroptimists run this weekend during the 20th annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, they will be led by Lisa Wolter.

Wolter, of Laguna Beach, is executive director of Komen Orange County, one of the most successful affiliates in the annual event, which raises funds for breast cancer treatment and research.

Under Wolter’s leadership, the Komen Orange County Affiliate has generated millions of dollars to help fund almost two dozen health centers serving the Latino, Asian and African American communities, historically underserved in the health-care field, according to a press statement from Komen.

Over the past 30 years, Wolter has founded the Women’s Center Inc., a rape crisis center and battered women’s shelter, and has held leadership roles in the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the AIDS Resource Center and Project Angel Food. Prior to taking the position at Komen, she was vice president of MZA Events Inc. in New York and Los Angeles, producing AIDS Walks and the Revlon Run/Walk for Women in New York City.

The Race for the Cure will take place Sunday, with registration from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m., at Pacific Life, 700 Newport Center Drive, Newport Beach. For more information, visit https://www.komenoc.org/race.
